Job Summary
Atkins is providing ongoing services to a number of major programmes across the defence, clean-up and decommissioning sectors within the nuclear industry. Our Warrington based multidiscipline design team is responsible for the delivery of work packages to Atkins' project teams based in the North West, Berkshire, the South East and the South West. An opportunity exists for a Lead Civil/Structural Design Engineer to join our Decommissioning and Clean-up business based in Warrington. You will be required to take responsibility for delivering engineering solutions to a range of projects whilst demonstrating a high level of technical competence. Duties and Responsibilities The Lead Civil/Structural Engineer will be responsible for the following: - Ensuring that all civil/structural work is delivered to the relevant standards and to the satisfaction of the client coordinating the technical aspect of design and systems interfaces
- Liaising with all stakeholders
- Developing design plans
- Leading and directing design teams
The role will also include: - Methods and build ability studies, workmanship and materials issues
- Assessment of permanent works and liaison with the client's design team
- Temporary and permanent works design and checking
- In-house research and technical alerts
- Work at client site locations
Requirements
- Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Chartered MIStructE or MICE
- Good commercial awareness and a background in consultancy is essential for this role, along with the ability to successfully manage and deliver projects
- Demonstrable track record of leading engineering tasks on multi-million pound projects
- An acceptable level of post Chartership experience including design, the management of projects and a strong understanding of site practices
- Experience of highly regulated UK industries beneficial plus an understanding of relevant legislative standards
- The ability to motivate and encourage your team to get the best results, with a strong track record in growing a team capability
- Excellent client facing skills and problem solving abilities
- Good communication skills are essential
- Ability to work both independently or as part of a varied team
Essential- Due to the nature of work undertaken at our clients' site offices, candidates will need to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance and should therefore be willing to undergo a security vetting process
