The Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE) is part of the UK Atomic Energy Authority and is one of the world`s leading fusion research laboratories. Our scientists and engineers are working with partners around the globe to develop fusion as a new source of clean energy for tomorrow`s power stations.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in bringing to fruition a £12M project to provide a training centre for c150 advanced engineering apprentices for Oxfordshire businesses. The initial funding is being provided by government to support the national apprenticeship agenda and thereafter it must at least break even. UKAEA is working with the Science and Technology Facilities Council to build and manage a new training centre at Culham, Oxfordshire.
The role is responsible for:
Developing and gaining approval for a financial business model for the Oxfordshire Apprentice Scheme (OAS) and manage the finances effectively.
Ensuring contractual and financial arrangements are negotiated and agreed in the best interests of OAS.
Post-handover, manage the UKAEA and STFC aspect of the OAS interactions using KPIs to ensure quality of delivery and appropriateness of the training offering.
Grow the reputation for OAS as a national centre of excellence for advanced engineering apprenticeships with all stakeholders including apprentices, parents, industry, funding bodies and government.
Support the project manager in the building of a new OAS training facility
Manage the procurement and contract management of third party training providers, ensuring that KPIs are achieved to provide high quality training and support to apprentices
Ensure that a positive, safe and respectful learning environment is provided to a diverse intake of young people, supporting them to learn and succeed.
Engage in effective publicity and marketing for OAS
Develop plans for the future of OAS to ensure the longevity and success of OAS.
Knowledge skills and experience
We are seeking someone who is passionate about helping others to learn and who will provide well organised leadership to achieve this growth. You must have:
-Experience of business management including developing business plans
-Ability to exercise good commercial judgement
-Experience of managing third party contracts
-Experience of professional project management processes
-Good presentational/ ambassadorial skills
-High levels of personal integrity and commitment in relation to diversity, safeguarding of young people and health and safety etc.
-Organisational and management skills
-Background in engineering or related technical area is highly desirable
-Experience of managing technical/vocational/ professional training programme is highly desirable
The job requires travel within a 50-mile radius and attendance at external events which may be in the evening/ weekends.
