Energy & Power Safety Advisor is required in the Leeds area of South Yourkshire Main Purpose of Job: To carry out safety advisor duties, in line with current Health and Safety legislation, during outage work. Principal Accountabilities: This is an active “hands-on” role and duties/responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: · Understand and work to the Health and Safety management System · Work in accordance with current Health and Safety practice · Give Health and Safety advice to all personnel including managers and the workforce · Liaise with power station safety advisors and managerial staff · Carry out regular workplace safety inspections and record observations · Encourage employee led safety and good behavioural safety at all outage sites · Advise and recommend types of PPE to be used in specific situations · Give tool-box talks and safety inductions to all site personnel on safety related issues · Carry out accident/incident and hazard observation investigations in accordance with procedures · Assist in the review of policies and procedures where appropriate · Contribute to the continuous improvement ethos within the Health and Safety Department · Produce Health and Safety Plans · Contribute to H & S Procedures Key Competencies: · Excellent communication and reporting skills · Good IT skills, making good use of the varied computer based packages for report writing and general communications via e-mail · Be able to work on their own initiative but also be part of a team and know when to ask for advice before acting · Unsocial hours are a requirement of the position dictated by project targets and time scales · There is also a need with this role for some considerable business travel throughout the UK Knowledge and Skills: · Must have NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent (working towards NEBOSH Diploma would be an advantage) · Must have the ability to work to deadlines and produce high quality work in an empowered environment · Must be confident to deliver inductions and tool-box talks to groups of people · Must be familiar with current Health and Safety legislation applicable to the power generation industry · Must be capable of networking with other company safety advisors and external practitioners
