OEM Design Manager – to £46k - Huddersfield
Our client is recognised as a market leader in their niche market sector, and as a result of continued success and following a recent proactive business restructure, the position of OEM Design Manager has recently been created. Reporting to the Design Director, the purpose of this new role is to bring proven retail and OEM design ability and experience to the design function of the department, which is to be facilitated through this design management role. The role will be a directly creative one (in terms of product styling, product language management, product brand management and concept generation) but one that is about supplier driven / third party manufacturing contexts, conceptual refinement, product styling, product evaluation and realisation in partnership with a wide range of third party product suppliers.
Working in conjunction with the OEM Category Management team. The successful candidate will adopt the day to day management of the OEM design team, delivering cohesive design projects that span both activities whilst also upholding all product brand values. Additionally you will have the ability to deliver and uphold product languages in line with the business strategy, adhering to and developing the internal design process. With knowledge and understanding of the contemporary product archetypes, there should also be an awareness and ability to understand consumer desire and furthermore and most importantly their requirements as a user, whilst always being aware of competitors ranges and performance in the marketplace. Essentially therefore, you must exhibit a passion for product design; uncompromising standards and an unwavering attention to detail in everything you do.
To be successful in this challenging and highly demanding role, you will lead, support and manage a team capable of delivering a consistent design service in regard to bringing off the shelf products on brand, with the aim of becoming the OEM design specialist for the business and imparting information efficiently and within a suitable context, and when applicable there will be the responsibility to manage the OEM design budgetary requirements and spend. You will understand manufacturing limitations and possibilities, strategic implementation of manufacturing, new production technology / materials technology / textile development and application and be able to manage all stages of the design process from the initial briefing through to completion of the conceptual ideas, initial designs, mock-ups, evaluative reports and an iterative approach to the design process, communicating these stages and working to critical deadlines wherever possible.
