What is the Role?

As a Senior Engineer, you will be involved in the Bridge Engineering team, working on aspects such as management, maintenance and design within both the highway and rail sector. You will need to be able to manage a team of bridge engineers and technicians, throughout the full lifecycle of each project. This includes the ability to mentor and lead during each stage from feasibility and assessment, through to detailed design and strengthening. Mentoring the junior members of the team will is an important aspect of this role, such as ensuring that all designs are done to health and safety standards.

As a senior member of the team you will be required to liaise with clients. The Leeds Bridge Team deal with clients across the M62, includes those in Northern Ireland, Liverpool and Hull. You will be working closely with the Principal engineer, and you will therefore gain experience with interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams, within the multi-project environment. You will also be able to develop your managerial knowledge, through assisting the Principal engineering with bids, marketing and business plan.

Currently the Leeds branch are working on the inspection and assessment of a range for structures within Northern Ireland, using a BDFO Package for Highway Management Ltd. This project covers over 200 structures, including concrete beams and slab bridges.
The Leeds team are also working on the feasibility of a 65-metre span steel arch bridge, over the River Don.
Other Highway related projects include the management of near 400 structures for RMS. This involves inspection and maintenance work on a variety of structures, including multi-level interchanges, as well as steel sign gantries.

Who are the likely candidates?

A likely candidate will have achieved Chartered Status and have a strong academic background. Candidates who can show much workable progression towards achieving chartered status will also be considered.

You will need to have many years UK based experience in the design, assessment, and inspection of Bridges, which covers the use of steel, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete. It is essential for a likely candidate to have working knowledge with design manuals for Roads and Bridges, and good knowledge of knowledge of rail bridges is preferred.

The ability to lead a team is a key aspect of this position, and therefore previous experience in team management is required.

What Skills do I need?

· Achieved/Near achieved Chartered status
· Strong academic background
· Many years UK based experience in Bridge Design/Engineering
· Ability to run/manage an expanding team
· Ability to mentor junior staff
· Experience of Contract supervision – ICE or NEC forms of Contract
· Managerial experience – such as client liaising, Bids, Marketing, Creation of Business plans
