The Sheffield office covers the Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and East Midlands part of the Eastern Division for which it is also the administrative centre, providing support to the Divisional Offices. The office provides comprehensive, multi-disciplinary professional services employing around 150 technical staff. Services provided include Highways, Railways and Transportation, Civil and Water Engineering, Building Structures and Building Services, Project Management and Strategic Consultancy for a wide ranging client base throughout the UK.
We are seeking a Rail Civil Engineer to help lead and support an increased workload in the Rail section of the Sheffield office’s Highways and Transportation Department.
Job description
You will be required to work in a team carrying out civil design engineering, assessment and managing small to large scale projects.
• You will be working on a range of civil engineering and development commissions, ranging from inspection and assessment work to feasibility studies • Delivering engineering solutions and reporting results to managers and clients • Preparation of the job design specification and all necessary material and workmanship specifications • Supervision and mentoring of Graduate Engineers in the design of rail civil engineering infrastructure • Providing support to other disciplines as required by the office workload be able to positively advise regarding aspects of their design as it impacts mechanical engineering issues • Leading and administering several Civil Engineering design works on the project to which you are assigned • Maintain interface with CAD development group to maximise effectiveness of CAD work on the project • Ensure that all necessary QA functions are carried out for the project in accordance with project procedures • You will be expected to undertake the risk and commercial management of projects reporting monthly to the project director
Candidate specification
Candidates should have achieved Chartered status, and have a good multidisciplinary knowledge of their field.
Essential:
• B.Sc or B.Eng or equivalent in Civil Engineering • Experience and exposure of Network Rail Group and Company standards • Previous experience within the rail sector • Good practical knowledge of construction in civil engineering • Experience of Civil Engineering design • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and external clients/contacts • Ideally, experience working in or with a multi-disciplinary design consultancy • A strong technical focus • Capability to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required • Valid Driving license • Network Rail Personal Track Safety certification would be desirable • Strong IT skills
