Mechanical Design Engineer / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer needed within the Power Conversion Industry

Our Client is a worldwide specialist in Power Conversion. They provide customized solutions to convert electrical energy through optimum application of technology in drives, controls, motors and generators.

Their customers operate in three main markets: Marine, Energy and Industry as well as in many specialized areas.

They cover every aspect from design-only to turnkey systems, installation and commissioning, all backed by a full range of support services.

Your Role is:

To produce mechanical design and manufacturing/purchasing instructions on a wide range of individual projects for customised or specially engineered large rotating electrical machines.

Main Tasks Include:

  • Responsible for ensuring that the mechanical engineering output for individual allocated projects is produced in an accurate and timely manner, within budget


  • Provision of project technical liaison with manufacturing, suppliers and customers.


  • Assurance of mechanical design integrity providing product safety, in accordance with company procedures


  • Provision of technical advice and investigations in support of factory, site or warranty issues


  • Experience of the design/selection of associated rotating machinery equipment such as gearboxes, couplings and lubrication systems and of machinery ventilation and acoustic treatments would be all be an advantage


  • Knowledge and experience of the use of the finite element method


  • Experience in rotor dynamics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer, including the use of CFD, would all be desirable



  • Personal Attributes

    The successful candidate will hopefully be Degree qualified in mechanical engineering, or have similar experience will be beneficial. Experienced in the design of large rotating machinery, ideally a.c. motors and/or generators, This position requires a strong capability in stress analysis by traditional methods. Can you demonstrate problem solving and process analysis skills? If you can think 'outside' of the box, show leadership qualities, are good working within a team and are flexibility. … This is the role for you!
