Job Description
An opportunity for an experienced Emergency Planner in our Birmingham or Manchester Office, within our Transport Solutions business. Emergency Planning is an integral part of our business which, within and outside of Transport Solutions, embraces all aspects of Emergency Planning and Business Continuity. Reporting to a Managing Consultant you will provide support within a team of Consultants in delivering quality consultancy and Emergency Planning solutions. You are expected to assist and guide junior members of the team. You will be responsible for the delivery of the projects allocated to you and managing the production of deliverable, programmes and budgets.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Member of Emergency Planning Society or other relevant professional institution(s)

Experience:

As an experienced Emergency Planner, you will have extensive experience in the various aspects of emergency planning. You will be able to manage consultancy projects, including delivery of strategy and policy development, planning, exercising and training. You will be able to work well within a team, but also have the ability to work alone on projects in a timely manner. You will communicate well with clients to progress their briefs to delivery of a full project, using regulations and standards to deliver services. You will be a good communicator, comfortable with interaction with all levels of a business, with influencing skills.
  • Relevant experience of working within the field of emergency planning
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of a relevant legislation and guidance, including the Civil Contingencies Act 2004
  • High level of personal initiative, vision and motivation
  • Good presenting skills and communicator
  • Ability to lead and influence meetings with the client, within the client organisation or with third parties up to board level


Responsibilities
  • Effective application of Emergency Planning methods and tools, for example extensive knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and its application
  • Manage client expectations effectively and build excellent client relationships
  • Project/programme delivery
  • Delivering effective and dynamic presentations
  • Combining analytical with intuitive and creative thinking to meet client needs
  • Ensuring project deadlines and targets are achieved
  • Prepare, monitor and manage project plans to deliver agreed client outputs including in-house project administration
  • Operating within corporate quality standards
  • Management of desktop and / or live exercising to relevant standards
Business Development:
  • Business Development is not a requirement of the role, but it would be preferable for the applicant to have experience of developing and managing leads and enquiries
Staff Development & Coaching:
  • Providing appropriate guidance and being a model to junior staff
  • Motivate staff to excel
  • Coaching staff on projects
Networking:
  • Make beneficial use of academic and professional body connections, for example Emergency Planning Society
  • Good communicator who networks effectively internally and externally
