The Birmingham office covers the Midlands region. It is one of the largest regional offices and undertakes a wide range of work for clients within the region. This includes infrastructure in the form of highways, bridges, railways, traffic and metro systems, structural design, building services, wastewater treatment, geotechnical and contaminated land engineering, tunnels, drainage and sewerage and PFI technical advisory work.
We now require an Intermediate level Mechanical Engineer to work on a range of challenging, dynamic and high-profile projects where you will have the ability to receive and develop a brief and contribute to the development of the design and construction process.
Job description
The successful applicant will work as part of a busy and successful team to deliver medium to large scale projects in both the public and private sector.
Principle functions will include:
• Mechanical design work for a range of projects • The Mechanical Engineer shall carry out Heat loss and Heat gain calculation both by static and dynamic means • Establish the ventilation, heating and A/C layout together with all aspect of public health. • Coordinate with the electrical design engineer and issue all information to allow electrical design to be completed • Liaise with the design team members to convey the requirements of the M&E service to them, as well as understanding the client brief • Write the specification for the project and establish the schedules for all equipment • Respond to contractor queries and attend site progress meetings
Candidate specification
Candidates should have a good multidisciplinary knowledge of their field and be able to positively advise other disciplines regarding aspects of their design as it impacts mechanical engineering issues.
Essential requirements:
• Experience and exposure of a range of mechanical engineering solutions • Experience in HVAC applications • A strong technical focus • Strong IT skills ideally with AutoCAD experience • Capability to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desirable requirements:
• Ideally, experience working in UK Mechanical engineering involved in the lifecycles of projects • Experience working in or with a multi-disciplinary design consultancy • The ability to work on own initiative on smaller projects would be an advantage |
