Colwyn Bay (North Wales near Conwy) is a small sea-side town about 1.5 hours west of Manchester by road, close to the Snowdonia Mountains. Colwyn Bay Office is a small regional office which provides project management, civil, structural and geotechnical services to public and private clients in the North Wales area. Projects elsewhere in the UK and abroad are sometimes contributed to, as and when called for.
An experienced graduate is required to add to the existing structural team and to allow new opportunities to be developed.
Job description Reporting to the Associate, this employee would be expected to undertake office design and report writing, and site-based duties as the need arises. Development to Chartered Engineer is envisaged. The successful applicant will be working within an established team of 15 technical staff, working on a variety of projects including Building schools for the future, Residential, Retail, Commercial, and Industrial.
• Design work on a wide variety of projects using structural steelwork, post tensioned and reinforced concrete • Delivering engineering solutions and reporting results to line managers • Providing capabilities in dynamic analysis of sub and/or super structure engineering • Carrying out strengthening work depending on project requirements • Liaise effectively with other professionals (architects, services engineers etc.)
Candidate specification Essential qualifications, experience, competencies and skills: • Degree level qualification in Structural Engineering or related field. • A minimum of 2 years design experience and exposure to a range of structural engineering solutions in a range of project types, i.e., buildings and infrastructure. • Ability to write technical reports clear and concisely. • Ability to manage and deliver projects successfully within set deadlines. • Computer-based analysis using off the shelf software • Are able to positively advise other disciplines regarding aspects of their design as it impacts structural engineering issues.
Desirable qualifications, experience, competencies and skills: • Strong IT skills ideally with AutoCAD experience. • Ability to listen, consult and communicate proactively. • Graduate member ICE or I. Struct. E. intending to work towards Chartered Engineer. • Able to appreciate UK construction law, contracts and design codes. • Engineering consultancy experience. • Ability to establish good relationship with staff and clients.
