With over 50 years of experience in designing and manufacturing cold formed sections, our client offers a vast range of high quality, precision engineered sections in areas including Vetex safety barriers, trench sheeting, and floor decking. An opportunity has now arisen for an experienced Product Development Engineer to join their team.
As a Product Development Engineer you will be primarily involved in the design and development of cold formed sections in a variety of applications. Although you will be heavily involved with new developments there will also be involvement in the development and refinement of existing products. For the right person there is ample scope for career progression.
Your duties will include:
- developing new products for the cold formed sections market
- understanding current product offering and exploring improvements/refinements
- technical design of sections including concept development, design and optimisation and supply chain logistics
- advising customers and the commercial department for new product technology
- new product documentation and necessary product testing
To succeed as the Product Development Engineer you must have previous product development experience, ideally within the steel industry. You must also have a full working knowledge of SolidWorks. The ideal candidate will also be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline.
A through understanding and working knowledge of the application of steel based products and the factors which influence design (Material properties, steel processing technology, product application, design codes and standards, construction methods and logistics), would be an advantage.
Good interpersonal and communication skills are a prerequisite for this position as is an ability to build sound relationships both internally and externally.
