The Opportunity An opportunity has arisen for a Technology Manager based in the South Wales Traffic Management Centre at Coryton, within the Highways and Transportation business as part of the companies Intelligent Transport Systems business. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is an integral part of their Transport Solutions business which is the Design Consultancy within Highways and Transportation, embracing all aspects of Highways and Bridges design, development and application of Intelligent Transport systems, and Strategic Asset Management. You will be working in the new state-of-the-art Welsh Assembly South Wales Traffic Management Centre (SWTMC) in Cardiff as part of the Traffic Wales team of approximately 60 staff. You will have the possibility of enhanced learning by being exposed to the full range of activities undertaken by the company as part of the Traffic Wales contract, and the opportunity is available to progress your career within any area of Traffic Wales or elsewhere within the group. Projects work undertaken with the IT and ITS systems teams include small value works up to £25,000, and more significant projects of up to £500k. Typical projects include the following type of works: · Development of the Traffic Wales journey time information systems including a public facing website and databases managing historical, real time and predictive traffic information. · Implementation of leading edge technology to support the aims and objectives of Traffic Wales. · Providing Level 2 support for IT infrastructure within Traffic Wales, including building servers, back-up and imaging, as well as day to day server monitoring. There is a requirement for the candidate to be able to consider the future strategic and operational direction of the considerable IT and ITS systems built up within Traffic Wales, which have now reached a level of maturity. The candidate will use their experience and knowledge to identify opportunities to create innovative solutions both to overcome existing challenges and new client requirements. Responsibilities You will be responsible for overall delivery of the IT and ITS programme included in an annual projects plan. Your responsibilities will include: · Working closely with the IT Manager who has day to day responsibility for running of Traffic Wales IT Systems. · Liaising with the client, the Welsh Assembly Government Transport Wales, to develop projects. · Overseeing expenditure proposal (business case) submissions to gain funding approval. · Preparation of tender specifications and contract documents. · Management of any external resource required for design or specialist input. · Management of procurement process, liaising with Welsh Assembly procurement departments. · Management of contracts to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within cost. Requirements · Electrical engineering, or IT, based first degree or equivalent appropriate experience. · Post Graduate related degree or equivalent. Experience · Sufficient or appropriate industrial experience in systems management. · Leading and managing change through innovation in a dynamic environment. · Information, communications and electronic technology. |
