The Cardiff office covers the South Wales area from Pembrokshire to Monmouthshire and north to include Powys. The office provides engineering consultancy services to include highways, railways, civil, structural and geo-environmental engineering.

We now require a further Highways Engineer to support our growing and diverse highways design business. The roles we offer give the excitement and challenge of the design and management of your own projects from concept through to completion through to managing a team.

Job description

The role will provide a range of challenging and dynamic projects where you will have the ability to receive and develop a brief and contribute to the development of the design and construction process.

Duties to include:

• Prepare designs, reports, specifications and other deliverables for highways schemes
• Prepare, update and monitor the Quality Assurance procedures
• Monitor the designs produced to ensure they meet the design briefs set by the Delivery Team
• Ensure designs are appropriate and meet the expected levels of technical excellence
• Seek innovation in the delivery of schemes and techniques used to design and construct them
• Supervision of junior staff and technicians
• Budgetary control of projects
• Attending client meetings
• Liaising with internal and external clients and third parties

Candidate specification

Essential requirements:

• HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent and working towards IEng status
• 3 years experience in highways design using UK codes (post qualification)
• A working knowledge of The Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges
• A full UK Driving license
• A working knowledge of ACAD
• Effective in both verbal and written communication
• Professional, courteous and motivated
Desirable criteria:
• BSc in Civil Engineering or equivalent and working towards CEng status
• 5 years experience in highways design using UK codes (post qualification)
• Previous team supervision experience
• Previous experience of the financial management of projects
• Previous client facing experience
