Mechanical Design Engineer - AutoCAD - experience of mechanical design for steelworks desirable - some international travel required - based Christchurch, Dorset - salary £25 - 35K
We are looking for a Design engineer with a recognised technical qualification (HNC/HND) in mechanical engineering or suitable experience
in a relevant industry.
It is essential that all candidates have a proven engineering background and be proficient with CAD systems
Experience of mechanical design for steelworks plant and of the installation and commission of steelworks plant and equipment is desirable but not essential as is experience in the use of AutoCAD and a 3D CAE package, e.g: Solid Edge and MathCAD
Working for one of the world's leading engineering and plant building companies for the international metals industry in their Aluminium Business Unit the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the production of mechanical designs and associated information including technical enquiries and order documentation, calculations, drawings, schedules, time cycles and maintenance data.
Day to day duties will also include -
* Provision of relevant information to the civils, fluids and electrical/automation functions
* Monitoring and technical control of designs/details both in the company's offices and at the sub-contractors office.
* Taking part in and contributing to design and safety reviews
* Ensuring that the design and detailing of mechanical equipment is technically correct and carried out to the required standards
* Reporting on the progress of mechanical engineering elements
* Providing engineering support to the installation and commission functions
* Providing engineering support to the manufacturing companies functions
* Helping to ensure that the engineering content of a project is completed
Candidates for the position of Mechanical Design engineer should have a practical and problem solving mind set, capable of working with minimum of supervision and have good communication skills
In order to carry out the position in full the Mechanical Design engineer will need a current Driving Licence and passport and must be able to travel both nationally and internationally, possibly at short notice
