Electrical engineers are now required by our client, the world’s leading provider of equipment and processes for the high accuracy mass imaging of electronic materials. Based in Weymouth, the Electrical Engineer will provide electrical engineering design and development expertise to a variety of projects.
As a competent Electrical Engineer, the jobholder’s responsibilities will tend to be broader, as compared to a Junior Electrical Engineer, in both complexity and diversity. The emphasis will be placed on ‘larger modules’ and you will be specialising in one of a number of electrical/ electronic fields for example PC’s, Motion Control, Vision, Power Supplies, Machine Wiring etc. You will also be involved, to a greater extent in the full design/ development cycle e.g. development of concept/ identification of need and through to the design and testing of solutions. Additionally you will be involved with Engineering Change and modifications to existing systems where appropriate.
As Electrical Engineer you will also liaise with Team and Project Leaders to clarify objectives, area of responsibility and standards associated with each specific piece of work to be undertaken. You will also liaise with internal staff (e.g. Customer Service Engineers, Engineers from within Electrical Engineering and other Engineering disciplines) for the purpose of clarifying the exact nature of identified faults and parameters for project success. You will undertake deliverables within a large project or a complete smaller project, to agreed targets (time, cost, quality). When appropriate, you will act as the Electrical Design ‘expert’ whilst liaising with customers to establish the exact characteristics of an identified fault or the specification for a requested change in functionality.
Your role will also involve developing electrical designs for predominately new or modified products/ options using Pro-Engineer, FAST-CAD or ORCAD CAD systems. You will undertake (or oversee) initial testing/ simulations to check correct functionality and operation of designed circuits. You will build initial design/ prototype, with or without outside assistance, and subsequently test in accordance with department standards, where applicable. You will liaise with suppliers to confirm specifications of new/modified items for prototype and production purposes as well as produce and complete appropriate documentation related to the electrical design process e.g. circuit diagrams, loom drawings, mechanical piece part drawings. When appropriate, you will check the standard of documentation with the Electrical Draughtsperson, or other designated person and produce relevant bills of materials relating to the new or modified item. Furthermore, you will liaise with the Engineering Services department for the purposes of moving a ‘proven’ design into the production phase. You will also provide coaching, in your own areas of expertise, to more junior members of the Electrica |
