RENEWABLE ENERGY – OFFSHORE WIND FARMS

Our client, the leading renewable energy company is rapidly expanding its Offshore Projects team to meet the demands of building its next large offshore wind farms and is seeking to fill a number of positions for the construction phases. Structural Project Engineers are now required to provide support and technical advice to the Project and Construction Managers on structural and construction issues according to the individual’s core skill.
Based at their Head Office in Swindon, you will be responsible for a wide range of activities. As part of a team, you will be responsible for the management of contracts in the range £100m- £800m for the supply/installation of electrical and control systems, turbines and foundations. You will undertake the development of technical specifications, assessment of tenders and of contractor competence; tender technical assessments; design reviews; assessment and recording of Engineering Risks into the project Risk Register as well as review the impact of scope changes and manage the change control process.
Your employment history may include working for oil and gas or power companies, or general engineering consultancies. Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a civil/structural engineering discipline, you will have knowledge of the principles of project management and good interpersonal skills. Significant/demonstrable experience of working on large construction projects in multi-disciplinary teams. Experience in the design, construction and installation of large industrial structures is required. Specific experience in dynamic structural analysis, steel fabrication, reinforced concrete construction,piling, seabed preparation and offshore heavy lifting for the marine civil engineering or oil and gas sectors would be advantageous.
This company’s projects are being built using multi-contract strategies and will demand a high level of involvement in the detailed management of a wide range of contract works and the interfaces between them. They are currently building their second offshore wind farm off the North Wales coast and this will provide opportunities for new team members to gain hands-on experience of this exciting new technology, and their upcoming project will feature between 150 and 250 wind turbines with a maximum project capacity of 750 MW.
Project teams in this company are multi-disciplined and contain both engineering and construction resources. The key purpose of the engineering resource is to ensure that the project objectives are fully
captured in the technical specification and that the project, as built, will meet the performance and quality requirements of the specification. The key purpose of the construction resource is to ensure the project is built safely, to time and cost. The teams are supported by experts in a variety of disciplines from both inside the company and outside.
