Atkins is one of the world's leading providers of professional, technologically-based consultancy and support services with over 16,000 staff in offices throughout the UK and overseas. We currently have positions available within the Water & Environment team in our Exeter Office for two Engineering/Modelling Support Technicians. This is an interesting and important role supporting the existing team of engineers and technicians delivering schemes on behalf of water industry clients. There will be an opportunity to learn new skills in supporting the design team and the water/sewer network modelling teams. The company is committed to the development of its staff and you will be provided with the opportunity for further training and to progress within the company. There is a programme of internal training modules available specifically to support new staff in gaining the modelling skills required for the role.
Requirements
- Minimum GCSE English/Maths
- Previous experience of working on a computer
- Ability to work in a team, to approach problems in a logical manner, and keen to learn new skills
- Knowledge of MS Word/Excel
- Interest in Geographical Information Systems and computer modelling
- Fluent in spoken English
- Qualification in an engineering or science related subject prefferred, but not essential
- Previous experience in an office environment Previous experience of modelling using computer Software (e.g. HydroWorks/InfoWorks, MapInfo & Strumap) would be an advantage
- Experience of liaising with members of the public
Responsibilities
Assisting Engineers in the: - Carrying out feasibility studies and producing written reports
- Detailed design and production of drawings/specifications for water related works
- Support in generating computer models for the analysis of water supply and sewerage systems
- Site inspection/survey works
- Liaison with clients and members of the general public
