To strengthen their position as world-class suppliers our client is actively recruiting for Senior/Principal Engineers - Mechanical Design/Defence
Specialising in the provision of Mechanical engineering, you will be working within a multi-disciplined project team assembled to deliver a specific system or equipment. The scope of the projects can run the complete time-scale from concept definition to support of equipment in service. Key responsibilities will include producing specification in a cost effective and timely manner and supporting the design specifications with appropriate reports and calculations, including consideration and understanding of aspects in stress analysis, safety, integrated logistics support and human factors.
Qualified to degree/HND level in Mechanical Engineering, candidates must have at least five years' experience in a related area. A background in the design mechanical handling equipment and mechanisms would be preferable. Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic or electromechanical systems would be an advantage, as would an ability to express design solutions using 3D CAD systems and to support proposals with suitable analysis (MathCAD).
The Senior/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer would be expected to perform work involving considerable independence in approach, demanding originality, ingenuity and judgement. Duties are assigned in terms of broad objectives and reviewed for policy, soundness of approach, accomplishment and effectiveness. The mechanical engineer will make technical decisions not usually subject to review and will determine courses of action necessary to expedite accomplishment of projects. In turn they are expected to carry out independent technical assessment of other project's designs.
The principal engineer will work as a key member of a multidisciplinary team including other professional engineers and may plan, assign, review and approve the work of these technical staff. A proactive and flexible attitude is essential for this role. Close contact and liaison with customers and suppliers will often be required.
