Senior/Principal Electrical Design Engineer - Defence/Nuclear Aerospace Industries - Mechanical Handling systems - based Bristol - salary £37 - 50K
We are looking for a Senior/Principal Electrical Design Engineer who is capable of leading small teams of electrical engineers to carry out both original design and upgrades for nuclear and defence projects.
Your responsibilities will include designing control systems associated with handling equipment, liaising with customers to produce a full understanding of the specification and ensuring sound interface and communication with all other relevant disciplines.
With a degree or HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, you must have relevant experience

Candidates must be computer literate, ideally including proficiency in CAD and have a high degree of commercial and technical awareness including working at a system level.
Generally speaking the work undertaken in the nuclear area of the business relates to candidates who have chosen to make their career in electrical engineering. Senior/Principal Electrical Design Engineers would be expected to perform work involving considerable independence in approach, demanding originality, ingenuity and judgement.
Duties are assigned in terms of broad objectives and reviewed for policy, soundness of approach, accomplishment and effectiveness. The mechanical engineer will make technical decisions not usually subject to review and will determine courses of action necessary to expedite accomplishment of projects. In turn they are expected to carry out independent technical assessment of other project's designs.
The required experience should cover preparation of requirements & design documentation including technical briefs, procurement specifications, test and commissioning schedules. Specific skills in one or more of the following is preferable:
* Fixed and variable speed drives * LV Power distribution and protection * Electrical control and instrumentation * Design of analogue and digital circuitry including the use of PLD's * Designing for the Military environment including EMC * Knowledge of Military and appropriate Commercial standards
The principal engineer will work as a key member of a multidisciplinary team including other professional engineers and may plan, assign, review and approve the work of these technical staff. A proactive and flexible attitude is essential for this role. Close contact and liaison with customers and suppliers will often be required.
You must be a team player able to tackle new problems and respond positively to new ideas. Some travel within the UK is involved.
