The Opportunity Atkins has an opportunity for a Principal Engineer (Structures) in their Highways & Transportation Bristol Office, within their Transport Solutions business. Transport Solutions is an integral part of their business which embraces all aspects of Highways and Bridges design, development and application of Intelligent Transport systems and Strategic Asset Management. Reporting to the Structures Manager, you will be expected to supervise and lead a team of Engineers and Technicians on the delivery of bridge design, assessment and strengthening schemes. You will be responsible for the technical integrity of delivery of the schemes, managing the programmes and budgets and liaising with internal and external Clients. Responsibilities Support a Bridges/Structures Team in a variety of roles reporting to the Structures Manager: - Carry out Design/Assessment of highway structures.
- Carry out feasibility and option studies.
- Carry out structural inspections and surveys.
- Preparation of contract documentation and technical specifications.
- Development of graduate engineers and technicians.
- Manage and direct the workload of team members.
- Liaise with internal and external clients and third parties.
- Prepare project programmes and cost estimates.
- Monitor and control all aspects of project delivery.
Ensuring: - Compliance of Quality, Safety and Environmental procedures to Atkins Business Management System.
- Work undertaken to programme and budget.
- H& S obligations are met.
Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent and be technically competent.
- CEng with ICE or IStrucE or equivalent significant experience.
- Sufficient or appropriate level of relevant post graduate experience in design, assessment, strengthening and construction to fulfil the duties of the role.
- Use of BS5400 Parts: 3, 4 and 5.
- Use of Structural analysis/design software such as SuperSTRESS, Lusas, and other FE packages.
- Plan and undertake Structural inspections.
- Production of feasibility studies.
- Computer Literate (e.g. Excel, Word, MS Project).
- Contribution to staff development.
- Report writing and reviewing.
- Preparation of specifications and contract documents.
- Managing a team of engineers (possibly including Chartered engineers) and technicians.
- Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Working with QA procedures.
- Experience of working with Highways Agency (MA, MAC, D&B, DBFO & ECI Contracts) and Local Authority procedures.
- Experience of working on development projects desirable.
