A vacancy has arisen for a System Engineer with a modelling & simulation bias, within the Modelling & Simulation Group of the Landing Gear Integration Department (EDLI) as part of the Landing Gear Centre of Competence. The role holder will be responsible for conducting model-based design studies to support the definition, validation and verification of requirements for landing gears and associated systems. The work will also include support to the safety engineers through modelling and simulation. This task will require close liaison and co-ordination with similar activities ·Building simulation models to assess and derive the system requirements for primarily landing gears and landing gear systems. ·Support the safety engineering team in validating Aircraft safety requirements. ·Support the landing gear design teams by integrating model in to Simulators: Desktop, Virtual Test Rigs, Test Rig and Full Cockpit Flight Simulators. ·Produce reports and information for external customers, through modelling and simulation. ·Contribute to the development of an operational plan to support the current and future needs of the Landing Gear CoC, including the preparation of the required business cases. ·Create modelling policies for landing gear and coordinate buy-off in wider modelling community
Profile
·The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of dynamical system modelling: subjects including Control, Mechanics, Hydraulics and Electronics. ·The successful candidate will be able to be able to build, validate and execute simulation models based on the captured needs of the design engineers. ·The successful candidate will be able to handle and manipulate large quantities of technical data, and produce technical reports. ·The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the competencies required at the Advanced Professional operating level, as well as a sound understanding of system engineering processes and activities. ·The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate strong team working and communication skills, and to show a high regard for internal and external customers, whilst maintaining aircraft integrity as the overriding principle. ·Applicants should be educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualification) with, desirably, at least 2 years industrial experience. ·Knowledge of the application of modelling techniques throughout the design life cycle and an understanding of aircraft production methods and processes is essential. ·Experience of standard tools (e.g. MSC.ADAMS, Matlab, Simulink, etc.) would be beneficial, although training will be provided.
