Role Description
This role is within the Information Management Architecture, Integration & Electrics Department (EYIU)
The primary responsibilities of the role are:
To define, specify and integrate integrated test benches to support avionics testing. To provide support for existing and future benches including fault finding, debugging and modification.
For these aspects the successful candidate should possess the following experience, skills and knowledge: A strong understanding of VME and VME based systems. A strong understanding of electrical signalling and signal types used within real time control systems and how off the shelf solutions for emulation and monitoring of such signals can be achieved using VME or equivalent systems. A strong understanding of off the shelf test equipment and how they can be integrated into a complex test management system. A good level of understanding of computer networks particularly switched Ethernet. A good level of understanding of electrical power supply issues for integrated test / embedded systems. A reasonable understanding of software relevant for integrated test systems particularly driver level issues. Experience of designing and specifying wiring and harnesses for a complex integrated test system.
The secondary responsibilities of the role are: To provide support and as necessary design and specify hardware demonstrators and mock-ups used by the department for research and development purposes for modular and distributed avionics. To provide electronics hardware support to the specification and evaluation activities for existing and future avionics components.
For these aspects the successful candidate should possess a strong understanding of electronics principles and be familiar with current concepts and architectures for both digital and analogue electronics relevant to embedded real time control. In particular understanding of current techniques used for signal interfacing, field buses and networking.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will need to possess a number of more general skills and experience: A good communicator. In the primary role the candidate will have to work with both users of the test facilities and dedicated software engineers responsible for the real time test management software system. In the secondary role the candidate will have to communicate with engineers from different fields and potentially from different countries. An advanced user of MS Office tools in order to communicate effectively Able to present, often to a large number of people. The capability to define and manage limited tasks performed by other engineers within the department.
