Research & Development Engineer Inertial Navigation Systems & GPS Technology Oxford
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Engineer to join the Research and Development Department of a small and expanding company that manufactures electronic instruments to enable research teams to test cars. Customers include the testing departments of many of the world’s major Automotive Manufacturers.
As Research and Development Engineer, you will be required to develop and enhance Kalman filters for inertial navigation systems and GPS. This will involve the analysis of real data, the assessment of inertial sensor quality and the development of test and calibration techniques for low cost inertial sensors.
You will also be required to help the support team by analysing interesting and unusual customer data, with the aim of helping the customer, improving results and improving the Kalman filter.
In addition, you will be expected to write C code for the inertial and GPS navigation system. Yin order to achieve this, you will need to know about operating systems, particularly POSIX standard operating systems. You will also need to make test harness software to validate software.
The majority of customers are international and sales are made through international agents and distributors. As a result, you will be expected to work as part of an international team from a variety of cultural backgrounds and international travel will be required.
Ideally qualified to PHD level, you will have a very good grasp of applied mathematics, probably from physics or engineering research. Some programming experience would be useful. It would also be an advantage if you have tutored undergraduates.
