Working within an electronics and software development team to architect and implement an update to a piezo driven high precision mechanical positioning system. The existing servo system is based on a stratix 2 FPGA and TMS C6000 DSP and requires refactoring and upgrading to integrate new features and perform faster. Specifically the existing system needs to be modified to respond to a second measurement input instead of or in addition to the existing feedback input. The servo loop needs to be modified to match the system characteristics and tuned for best performance and stability. The engineer will be responsible for documenting the design with an understandable architecture and theory of operations. The documents will be updated during the project.
Must have demonstrable experience in designing high performance digital servo control systems using modern design methods. Knowledge of piezo system characteristics is an advantage. Must have good communication skills and be able to convey the design through presentation, diagrams and written documents. Must have implemented servo systems using DSPs and be competent in the C programming language. Advantageous to be familiar with the TMS320C64xx or 67xx and Code Composer environment. Knowledge of implementing Signal Processing in Stratix-2 FPGAs may also be useful.
