My client has an exciting technical lead position at their Essex offices. We're looking for experienced electronic engineers with a proven background in Power Supply. Candidates should have proven team leadership experience and strong design skills.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB: • To establish and develop in-house power control capability. • To provide technical leadership and direction. • To develop a new range of product leveraging power switching technology.
MAIN ACTIVITIES/ TASKS: • Design and develop a range of modularised electronic controls of AC mains for a broad range of appliances. From a basic market definition brief, provide technical input to establish product feasibility. • Develop technical product definition specifications. • Set the scope of the design, carry out conceptional design and liaise with design team to deliver detailed design. • Lead and review the design process. • Produce technology demonstrators and product prototypes for 'proof of concept'. • Hand in hand with the design and development process, the role will also be responsible for the development of appropriate technology and techniques in order to support product design. • Throughout the process, liaise with manufacturing and production, probably in the Far East, to ensure a smooth product introduction into mass production. • Support the early stages of production and deal with any queries accordingly. • Ensure that a watching brief is maintained on the latest technologies applicable to future product development
EDUCATIONAL / QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a Physical Science.
PREVIOUS/CURRENT EXPERIENCE: (Essential) • practical experience of design development of electronic switching of AC mains and/or SMPS design for appliances. • Must have strong switch mode power supply design experience – understanding how to design for specific performance characteristics. • Practical experience of the resolution of temperature issues associated with the above. • Practical experience of reliability analysis of power supply and control circuits • Practical experience of design for and analysis of EMC emission – including simulation and resolving EMC issues without resorting to high cost components. • Practical experience and evaluation of cost reduction of existing hardware designs. • Practical experience of the layout of electronic PCBs ensuring compliance with regulations governing EMC emission. • Practical experience of applying simulation tools for analysis of circuit designs. • Experience of FMEA
