Salary / Hourly Rate: £34,000 - £38,000 dependent on experience

Summary of the role

As a member of the control systems emerging technologies (CSET) team, develop a capability in modelling and characterising semi-conductor devices. This capability shall be delivered in partnership with academia and industry.

Key accountabilities

• Coordinate the delivery of internal and external research on emerging technology for control systems implementation in support of programme elements as tasked by line management
• Liaise with Radiation Science Group to understand and co-operate with their programme to develop radiation tolerant electronics
• Manage external contracts with industry and academia


Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience, Skills

• A knowledge of electronics or applied physics with an electronics related bias
• Some knowledge of high reliability technology such as space or undersea applications
• Degree (or equivalent) in electronic engineering or science
• PhD in Electronics/Science related subject is desirable
• Chartered status or working towards Chartered status
• Some experience post graduation in the electronics industry or applied physics research
• Experience of team working and line management
• Management of contracts with industry and academia
• Application of quality assurance techniques is desirable
• Capable of dealing with the issues related to contract management
• Able to learn about new technologies
• Able to deal with a wide technology base
• Able to manage staff
• Literate and numerate to a level commensurate with the research undertaken and the provision of technical reports
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Competent user of standard office software


Special Requirements

• Some UK and overseas travel may be required
