Job Description
Epsom - London - Glasgow - Birmingham - Leeds The level of investment in the built environment is unprecedented. Whether it is UK investment in ageing infrastructure and major new developments such as the Olympics; fuelling the rapid expansion in China or diversification from oil in the Gulf States design, engineering and construction services are at a premium. This is most visible in the energy sector where the drive for low carbon generation, the need to replace aged assets and invest in energy management technologies is creating unique opportunities for talented individuals to thrive. Atkins is at the forefront of this development and has an enviable reputation for delivering flagship projects for our clients in Europe, the Middle East and China. Our Transmission and Distribution division operates in the competitive electricity sector. We provide value-added design and engineering services and built solutions across the entire spectrum of electricity networks from HV transmission grids to LV industrial power distribution and controls. Our clients include UK T&D companies, renewable technology providers and we are playing an increasingly key role in delivering the electrical design aspects of major infrastructure projects such as the London Olympics and truly groundbreaking international projects. We are seeking applications from Electrical Engineers with drive and ambition with experience of electrical infrastructure projects. Previous experience of working in the electricity utilities sector is essential as is the desire to achieve Chartered Engineer status and develop graduate staff within a thriving and rapidly growing environment. Atkins places a strong emphasis on its clients and a strong client focus and stakeholder awareness is required for these roles. In return, Atkins offers the opportunity to be involved with some of the biggest and most innovative projects in the electricity sector both in the UK and overseas.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing the electrical design aspects of substation refurbishment/re-kit projects and leading electrical aspects of major infrastructure projects from system studies and investment appraisals through to detailed design
  • Act as Project Manager on electrical design projects or on electrical aspects of multidisciplinary utilities infrastructure design projects
  • Mentoring and technical development of graduate electrical engineers
  • Interface with staff in other areas of Atkins and develop strong working-level client relationships
  • Lead on the production of electrical design bids


Requirements
These roles require individuals with proven experience of working on complex projects within a client or consultancy environment. We are looking for individuals with potential who are looking for the next step in their career development. Candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status
  • A sufficient and appropriate level of Transmission or Distribution Network experience gained within a client organisation, engineering consultancy or equipment supplier
