Summary of the role

Tooling & experimental equipment design Engineer in support of the design, development and evaluation of high explosives initiation systems.

Key accountabilities

• To provide Mechanical Engineering Design Support to the Technical Operations Group scientific community to enable the design, characterisation and evaluation of initiation systems
• To maintain safe working practices in accordance with all relevant external and Company regulations and codes of practice

Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience, Skills

• Current state of relevant engineering technology
• Effective understanding of Software Design Packages and Manufacturing Processes
• Health & Safety Legislation, Company Safety Management System
• HNC or equivalent in mechanical engineering
• The use of Computer Automated Design Software Packages for the design of mechanical assemblies or systems
• Manufacturing of one off and batch quantities of mechanical experimental equipment and components
• Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship
• Logical and analytical approach to problem solving
• Communicate clearly and unambiguously in exchange of information at all levels
• Build and improve effective internal working relationships
• Maintain effective work under pressure
• Effectively manage own time and programme of work
• Work with minimum supervision
• Interact positively with staff of all levels
• Effectively use IT equipment and required software packages


Special Requirements

• Medically fit to work with Explosives and within a High Explosives area
