PURPOSE
A vacancy has arisen for a person to fill the role of a Mechanical Technician within
Estates and Engineering.

THE ROLE
• Carrying out planned maintenance and repair operations, including repair,
operation and maintenance (to competency level) of electrical and mechanical
building services and process plant, including HVAC, piped gases, hot and cold
water systems, steam systems, refrigeration, etc.
• Monitoring and testing duties, as requires by the Statutory Authorities.
• Refurbishments
• Monitoring and control of plant via Building Management Systems or stand-alone
systems.
• Liaison with other craft and non-craft grades both within and external to the
engineering department.
• Participation in out-of-hours operation of process plant on a rota basis, as
required.
• Participation in Health and Safety and Quality Assurance procedures, as
appropriate to the post.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• The post holder should have experience, in a mechanical engineering role, ideally in a
facilities management environment.
They should have served a recognized trade apprenticeship in either pipe fitting or HVAC, and hold a recognized mechanical qualification, or relevant experience with a willingness to progress towards a professional qualification.
• Experience of health, safety, fire other relevant legislation would be desirable but not
essential for the post.
• The post holder should possess good communication skills. He/she should be capable of
working alone, or equally, as part of a team.
