What is the Role?
Our Client requires a Highways Electrical Engineer for the design and specification (including drawings) of road and amenity electrical systems for various clients. The electrical scheme sizes value between £50,000 and £4,000,000 and may involve feasibility and tender design work.
The position will be assisting the Lighting and Electrical Team manager to fully comply with the Agents obligations in respect of the Managing Agent Contract and also to assist with other ad-hoc electrical works as and when they arise. The candidate must have an understanding and application of highway electrical designs, including innovations. Scheme work may also include, inter alia: Highway cross section considerations (safety fence clearances etc.) Power supplies procurement - road lighting, signals and other equipment.
Traffic signs and illumination, Maintenance considerations, Preparation of contract documentation will also be necessary from time to time, including correspondence with the client, other departments and third parties (particularly Local Authorities and Distribution Network Operators). The highway electrical designer needs to ensure that high standards of safety and quality are met and in this respect, it will be necessary to work in accordance with the Client’s quality systems.
This is a Permanent position based in Herford.

Who are the likely candidates?
The candidate will ideally be a full member of the IET and be trained for carrying out design work in accordance with the Construction Design and Management Regulations.
A driving licence is essential, as the job will occasionally involve driving a marked vehicle and parking up safely on motorways and dual carriageways, during the day and at night.
What Skills do I need?
· A working knowledge of the 16th Edition IEE wiring regulations (BS 7671) · Ability to write various Electrical technical reports · Knowledge of HA standards
Computer literacy is also essential with advanced use of Electrical design software, such as:
· Amtech or Castline. · AutoCAD operation is an advantage but not essential.
