Senior Geotechnical Engineer
East Grinstead

Job Description:
The vacancy is for a senior member of our client’s geotechnical team based within the Civil Engineering department in our East Grinstead office. With significant post graduate experience, the candidate will be chartered or near chartered and have a detailed understanding of major civil engineering projects and the role of geotechnics within them. Extensive geotechnical design experience will enable the candidate to fully exploit the autonomy and opportunities available within the geotechnical team.
The candidate will be expected to provide leadership and design guidance to more junior members of the team as required on a project specific basis.

Requirements (Essential):
 Civil Engineering related degree, BEng level minimum
 Chartered, or currently pursuing chartership
 Significant relevant post graduate experience with contractors and / or consultants.
 Thorough understanding of geotechnical design principles and their relevant applications
 Capabilities in main geotechnical analysis packages

Requirements (Desirable):
 MEng level degree
 MSc in Geotechnical Subject
 Working with contractors on major Design and Build projects
 Use of Eurocodes and other international design standards
 Clean UK driving licence
 Active within industry Institutions, Forums or Societies. Keen to understand, investigate and embrace new technologies, design philosophies or construction techniques applicable to Geotechnical Engineering

Responsibilities:
The Candidate will be expected at times to lead and develop teams of Geotechnical Engineers, Graduate Engineers and Technicians in preparing geotechnical design solutions for major civil engineering structures for highway and railway schemes at preliminary, tender, and detailed design stages.

The Individual:
 Good team player within a multi-disciplinary environment, but able to work on own initiative and under pressure when necessary.
 Good communicator at all levels, both verbally and in writing
 Accuracy and attention to detail
 Willing to learn and develop new and existing skills
 Proficient in discussing technical issues in non-technical language with graduates and Clients.
 Dealing with Clients in a friendly, efficient and effective way
 Financially aware.
