What is the Role?
This is a design based role for a Chartered Principal Engineer to work from our clients Ashford office. You will be required to carry out technical design work and to manage projects and design team members. The position requires hands on understanding of current design standards for some, or preferably all, of the following materials: reinforced concrete, steel, and timber.
The majority of the work carried out by the company is in the Rail sector and there are a number of significant opportunities both current and in the pipeline which require a knowledge of managing multidisciplinary projects, together with an understanding of environmental legislation, geotechnical issues, and a grounding in permanent way and signalling interfacing.
The work is varied and will include detailed structural designs for medium sized buildings including schools and hospitals. The work can be new build or refurbishment of existing facilities.
Clients are varied and range from National Rail to Contractors to Hospital Trusts and local Councils. The majority of the work carried out is however on design and construct commissions where delivery of accurate designs on time is key to the business success.
The likely candidate is not expected to be conversant with all the above disciplines but must be confident with a variety of work. They are looking for technical people capable of working in one or more of the sectors described above.
What Responsibilities will I have?
The responsibilities of a Principal Engineer are to assist the Directors in the efficient management of the business by providing extensive technical expertise and taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of project teams.
The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Undertaking the role of Project Engineer, training will be provided on our systems.
The day-to-day management, direction and training of the staff on undertaking project work.
Acting as a role model for others in the Company.
Complying with the Company Health & Safety Procedures, CDM Regulations, general legislation and QA procedures and Documentation.
Developing the relationship between the company and new and existing clients and identify potential work.
Preparing fee budgets and resource requirements for projects under your control.
Coordinating with other engineers in the regional offices.
Managing and preparation of calculations, drawings and other documents and ensure these are controlled during the execution of projects under your control.
Specifying and/or managing site examination and investigation works in a safe and effective manner.
Identifying and managing risks for the work under your control.
