An automotive OEM requires a Manufacturing Engineer Position Description: Liaise with Product Team, MEO, Production Team and suppliers to develop optimum processes for milling, drilling, turning, grinding, honing/boring operations. Managing the development of processes through engineering and build to support Prototype programme delivery schedules. Respond to Product Design running and Plant based Program Changes with feasibility, cost and timing, within a Managed Change discipline. Proactively drive and participate in all Advanced Quality Planning initiatives with the objective of zero defects. Respond to engine assembly line concerns, and lead team based problem solving tools. Approve systems/equipment that meet or exceeds all national/local Health, Safety, Ergonomic rules and regulations. Facilitate the engineering and tooling requirements for prototype builds. Align with and implement QS9000/ISO procedures and practices. Resolve concerns within shopfloor team based activities of Process, Production, Productivity, Layout, Packaging, and Global Logistics to ensure successful handover of engineering changes to Production Teams. Drive lean manufacturing principles and SQDCME deployment. Provide requirements for new model launch timing and metrics. Skills Required: The successful candidate should have experience in Power Train or Manufacturing Engineering. Experience Required: The ability to interpret part drawings, specifications, control plans and manufacturing process sheets. The use and application of problem solving tools e.g. 8D, 5 whys. An understanding of lean production and productivity techniques applied to mass production. Knowledge and use of quality tools such as FMEA, SPC. The use and application of machining techniques such as milling, drilling, turning, honing/boring, grinding and lapping. Knowledge of tooling and gauging for metal cutting applications. Knowledge and resolution of common machining issues such as chatter, porosity etc. Experience of CNC and/or transfer machines, ideally within a high volume environment. Experience of introducing engineering changes within a manufacturing environment. The ability to work within, and lead small teams. Current safety legislation and an appreciation of ergonomics. People development and leadership ability. A high level of motivation, initiative and creativity. A flexible approach to cope with frequent change. Ability to prioritise tasks and manage a demanding workload. A high level of presentation and communication skills.
