The clients Stevenage site has been a world leader in Spacecraft Structures for 3 decades. A recent decision to create a Centre of Competence for Spacecraft Structures has opened up exciting new opportunities particularly in Earth Observation and Science Projects. Earth Observation and Scientific satellite structures are typically custom designed using advanced lightweight materials and are up to 5 metres high.
A Senior Stress Engineer is required to lead a small Stress Engineering team in project focused concurrent engineering teams covering the whole life of a satellite structure from conceptual design through detail design and analysis, manufacture and test. Project durations are typically 3 years.
The post offers high job interest, a positive working environment and excellent opportunities for career development. Functional management or technical expert would be natural progression but project management could provide an alternative career path.
Tasks Team direction and co-ordination and hands on involvement in: - Scheme sizing by hand calculations - Interpretation of design drawings - Finite Element model generation and analysis - Detail stressing - Analysis of material property, component and major structural tests.

Skills
A minimum of 5 years post graduate industrial experience in stress analysis in the Aerospace or Composites industry or equivalent A good understanding of lightweight structures and composite materials Finite Element analysis using MSC NASTRAN (model pre & post processing using FEMAP, MSC PATRAN or USG IDEAS) General computer skills for analysis and report writing Leadership Cost and schedule discipline Communication |
