We are a recruitment agency and we are currently looking for an industry experienced Payload Data Handling Engineer for our Portsmouth based client. We have a number of other roles within the aerospace and engineering sector, please visit our website colbernlimited co uk or send us your CV.

To be a lead engineer, at a system/architectural level, developing concepts and designs of multi-processor for on-board processing systems.
The role is to lead studies, R&D activities and generate proposals for new work, to advance the Company's capability in this area, i.e. to develop competence on board processors and processing electronics for space applications - taking account of reliability/fault-tolerance, mission needs, and communications between units

To lead avionics architecture work, undertaking the analysis and design of space-bourn processor systems with onboard software. The role will involve working on a wide range of activities, including research and development proposals, breadboard development and involvement in system implementation. An involvement in hardware and software development is expected.

The person appointed will be expected to contribute to system-level designs of new projects, and develop concepts for future Earth Observation and Science Space missions. Projects are likely to involve multiple processors and instruments which are are linked by a network.

Good team-working is required, the ability to write clear reports and proposals and to make presentation of complex technical designs. The role is also expected to involve supervising other engineers, as well as providing advice to other parts of the business on specific projects.

Qualifications
Essential:
Honours degree in computing, Physics, Space Systems/Avionics or Electrical Engineering.
Minimum Upper Second class honours.
Good written and oral presentation skills,
Ability to work in a team and supervise others.
A capability to design hardware and software is also needed.

Desirable:
MSc in the above subjects

Previous Experience
Essential:
System design e.g. fault-tolerance, reliability, networking techniques.
Experience of embedded systems and computer programming, algorithm implementation: ideal C.

Desirable:
Working experience on some of the following:
instrumentation (especially space payloads),
radiation effects on electronics,
SpaceWire/MIL 1553 networks;
software development ideally UML tools;
processor and memory architectures;
testing and validation processes.

Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
