To conduct design and analysis activities for various programs as part of the optical instrumentation group.
Main Activities:
To lead the work of the optical project team, reporting to the Optical Instrumentation Group Leader and being responsible for all the optical engineering activities.
Key Tasks:
Working to develop novel optical systems to meet the requirements of the customer in a cost effective manner
Supporting bidding process by supplying optical designs that meet customer requirements
Management of project optical work packages
To provide project planning for optical work packages
Having a clear understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes needed for the optical components and letting this steer the optical design process accordingly
Support manufacturing activities to ensure that optics are produced on time and to specification
Documenting and implementing design changes thus maintaining and controlling build standard.
Ensuring that quality standards are meet the liaising with the PA manager
Conducting tolerancing, optimization and stray light analysis on optical system designs
Proven relevant optical design experience, preferably in the space industry
Extensive experience of using design modeling tools such as Zemax
The candidate will be qualified to at least degree level in a scientific discipline

Proficient in use of MS Office packages
