Our client is Northern Ireland's largest independent engineering consultancy and was founded in 1953. This company currently employs a staff of around 90 offering civil, structural, water and traffic engineering expertise as well as expert witness and other specialised advice and consulting support. This client has expanded to be one of the major civil and structural engineering consultants in Ireland with regional offices in England and Scotland. Their six Engineering Principals each direct various design teams involved in a wide variation of projects. The firm has a particular strength in educational facilities, through all levels of education from primary to university level, in the health sector including major hospital developments and in civic buildings including theatres, civic offices, leisure centres and community centres. In addition they also work in the commercial and industrial sector including airports, shopping centres, factories and warehouses. They have engaged in projects with all current methods of procurement including traditional, PPP / PFI, design build and partnering. Ideally our client requires someone with a minimum of 2–3 years experience in a similar role with a proven track record of delivering under pressure. You should have an ability to achieve results within strict time schedules. Duties to include: - Working closely with clients, architects, contractors and other professionals on construction plans - Developing design ideas, using computer aided design (CAD) packages - Investigating the properties of materials, like glass, steel and concrete, and advising on which may be most suitable for the job - Working out the loads and stresses on different parts of a structure like the foundations, beams, arches and walls - Making sure that projects meet legal guidelines, environmental directives, and health and safety requirements - Preparing bids for tenders, supervising project teams and giving progress reports to clients and senior managers
