At BAE Systems – Military Air Solutions, we’re responsible for producing some of the most advanced military aircraft the world has ever seen. Like the F-35 Lightning II – the first (and currently only) stealthy supersonic, multi-role short take-off and vertical landing fighter aircraft. And the Herti family of Unmanned Air Vehicles, which can soar thousands of feet in the air and take thermal images of the terrain below – all without a pilot on board.

As a business, we have a hand in every stage of an aircraft’s development. This starts with an initial brief and carries on through a variety of design, build and test stages, before we deliver the final product. That level of involvement means we can boast a wide range of capabilities, including systems integration, manufacturing, and repair and upgrade. We’ve even produced a number of military training programmes. Our customer base spans more than 30 countries worldwide. And we currently employ around 10,000 people.

System Integration Engineers are responsible for assuring that the Customer requirements for the integrated Aircraft and Support System are translated into products and services that meet these requirements using sound engineering judgement and the support of a wider range of specialist teams and processes. Thereby ensuring that the resulting solutions are managed so that they not only meet the intent of the design but are properly certified and controlled, resulting in the release of trusted engineering products in accordance with the planned schedule and budget.

To become a Systems Integration engineer, you should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in an engineering or science discipline; have a broad interest across a range of engineering disciplines, ideally having experience of operating as part of an engineering integration team within a large programme and be able to demonstrate good written & verbal communication skills.

Candidates with a strong Systems Integration background from other Engineering domains outside of the Aerospace sector will be considered.

There are currently opportunities at engineer and, for those with greater experience, senior engineer and engineering manager levels: for

Technical Integration Engineers

A Technical Integration Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the customer requirement is achievable, and that customer acceptance is secured at relevant points through the lifecycle. The role revolves around the definition of the top level architecture of the product or service, ensuring all sub-systems and components are developed in a manner that maintains the functionality and balance of properties (performance, safety, reliability etc) of the design solution such that the customer requirements will be met. This involves selection of appropriate technologies and trading off solution characteristics against cost and risk. The role also covers the negotiation of the acceptance criteria and approval of the overall qualification plan for the product.
