Safety / Risk Consultant: North West & South East Our client is one of the UK’s leading risk management consultancies. Vacancies have arisen for Safety / Risk Consultants to be based at their offices in the North West and the South East on a permanent basis, however contract may be considered for their South East office.
The role will involve applying scientific and engineering principles and techniques to assess safety and environmental risks, working with limited supervision to assist higher-grade consultants on projects and providing technical advice and guidance to lower grade consultants. The role will involve continuing to acquire and apply a working knowledge of risk analysis and hazard identification techniques. Also, prepare or manage the preparation of technical reports or parts of technical reports to clients in the nuclear industry i.e Safety Case Reports. There will be a need to manage projects, also assisting in general marketing and sales activities.
You will have the ability to resolve a variety of scientific and technical problems within procedural guidelines, performing complex scientific and technical calculations and apply basic scientific and engineering principles to problem solving. You will have good time management skills, good oral / written communication skills, Good computer skills and interpersonal skills.
The successful candidate must hold a degree in engineering, science or related field of study, ideally having worked in one of the following areas: safety analyst; safety engineer; safety and risk assessor (COMAHs etc); safety specialist; risk or safety management or consultant; process engineer; reactor physicist; radiological protection advisor. You must have a good working knowledge of risk analysis and hazard identification techniques and their applications to problem solving. Up to date understanding of the relevant legislation on Health & Safety and Environmental Protection and its application. Knowledge of the Regulations governing the Nuclear Industry is preferable. Also, a postgraduate qualification is desirable as is membership of a relevant professional body.
Since some of the work is of a sensitive nature, preference will be given to candidates for whom can, relatively quickly, obtain security clearance (SC) In order to obtain SC clearance, applicants must have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
