At BAE Systems – Military Air Solutions, we’re responsible for producing some of the most advanced military aircraft the world has ever seen. Like the F-35 Lightning II – the first (and currently only) stealthy supersonic, multi-role fighter plane. And the Herti family of Unmanned Air Vehicles, which can soar thousands of feet in the air and take thermal images of the terrain below – all without a pilot on board.

As a group, we have a hand in every stage of an aircraft’s development. This starts with an initial brief and carries on through a variety of design, build and test stages, before we deliver the final product. That level of involvement means we can boast a wide range of capabilities, including systems integration, manufacturing, and repair and upgrade. We’ve even produced a number of military training programmes. Our customer base spans more than 30 countries worldwide. And we currently employ around 10,000 people.

Due to ongoing development activities and expanding in-service support demands on programmes, there is a long-term need for Safety Engineering skills. To meet this demand several vacancies at Engineer / Senior Engineer level exist for individuals who possess a degree of experience with any one or more of the following skills gained in a system safety environment.

  • Development and implementation of System Safety Programme Plans and procedures
  • Carrying out hazard analysis activities. e.g Hazard log management, qualitative risk based assessments, Zonal Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Event Tree Analysis, FMECA.

Ideally candidates should have previous experience of either civil or military aircraft programmes with good aircraft and system design knowledge. Additionally, they must have knowledge and experience of safety requirements/process/standards ie. DEF STAN 00-56, Mil Std 882 etc. They must be familiar with Fault Tree Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis, Hazard Logs/Hazard Management and Zonal Hazard Analysis techniques.

Personal attributes must include excellent team working, together with good communication (written & verbal), self-motivation and customer focused skills, able to maintain a focus on quality when under pressure. Candidate must be IT literate.

Typical Qualifications would be HNC/HND or degree in Systems/Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering or related subject environment (additional experience will be considered in lieu of qualifications).
Some UK travel may be required.
