Form part of or lead the hazards engineers in the Safety Team in Reactor Support. For more senior candidates, this will include bid management and identifying opportunities.
Key Responsibilities The key responsibilities of the post: Hazard Safety Assessments for a wide range of systems associated with AGR & PWR Nuclear Power Stations and future new build designs in support of plant operation, site license, regulatory approval and nuclear safety case production. To provide support to British Energy AGR & PWR power stations in the Hazard analysis and resolution of arising operational problems. Including the analysis of system failures for root causes, the preparation of hazard based safety submissions, the authoring or verification of plant modifications and optioneering studies.
Essential Qualifications Trained and practised nuclear safety case author/verifier. Strong awareness of nuclear safety case requirements, procedures and regulatory expectations. Knowledge of wide range of Reactor Operations issues, i.e. AGR & PWR technology, safety methodologies, international standards, QA procedures
Desirable Qualifications Previous work for British Energy desirable. Client qualification - BE AV2 or AV1 Safety Case Author/Verifier
Experience Required Ideal candidates will have proven engineering experience and a track record of delivering results within a Nuclear Safety Case and Hazard Analysis team. A good level of station contact is required, including periodic visits to power station sites. Due to the diverse nature of the station systems covered applicants are required to be flexible and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. The ability to combine practical considerations with a good understanding of underlying theory, in order to develop the most practicable and economic solution to a particular plant problem or issue. • A self starter, able to work with minimal supervision. • Experience of direct liaison with customers, including the nuclear regulator. • Willing to work flexibly and adapt to other roles within the group and externally as workload demands. • Familiar with Quality Assurance processes. Experience of any of the following would be an advantage: The production of nuclear safety cases and hazard assessments, and knowledge of the industry's regulatory requirements. Prepared to consider candidates from other hazardous industries.
