We are looking for a Project Manager to work for a large engineering consultancy based around the Manchester area on a number of schemes. These schemes are generally ring fenced projects with small, low risk 3rd party elements. Some interchanges may have commercial elements to them, and the Project Manager would need commercial experience to deliver revenue from developer agreements. These projects are substantially delivered by our client in house teams, comprising a project manager leading a team of designers, architects, QS's and contractors all appointed by the client. Typical project budgets are £15m, although Altrincham interchange is £20m, Bolton interchange is the largest at £30m, Stockport interchange is another big one. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate good project management experience of in house teams and, ideally, knowledge of commercial development. It is essential that the successful candidate has the following attributes; •Track record of delivering projects to time, cost and standard. •Demonstrable post qualification experience in successful project management of significant individual projects / programmes. •Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously •Relevant management experience •Proven experience of beneficial working in partnership with a range of third parties •Experience of dealing with projects that impact on the general public. •Ability to compile reports both technical and non-technical for a range of political, professional and lay-person audiences. It is also desirable that the successful candidate has the following attributes; •Broad knowledge of public transport issues and transport in general •Knowledge and awareness of working in an environment involving contact with senior elected Members. •Good presentational skills evidenced by attending and presenting to public meetings, project exhibitions, consultation events, public inquiries and such like. •Skilled in using industry standard project management software. •Experience of managing projects to successful conclusion on site and of achieving delivery to time and budget requirements.
To be successful in this role you must have a relevant degree (or equivalent) and gained Chartership with your relevant professional body i.e. Chartered Engineer. It is desirable that you have an appropriate project management qualification, such as MAPM In addition to the qualifications above you will need a clear understanding of the work programme and the contribution expected of you and your colleagues and be committed to deliver the agreed work plan to the timescale and standards required. You will need an understanding of the processes in place to deliver streams of work and ensure that you keep your manager and others informed of the potential for significant change to the work plan – unexpected delays or outcomes, changes in resource requirements, an inability to gain commitment from other key contributors. You will have a customer focused approach - an understanding of, and appropriate response to, the expectations of the client and external customers the role holder must work with. You will work to the clients statement of values and behaviours and have an ability to work effectively with colleagues whose work will be impacted by your activities, and of those where you will be affected - managing the interdependencies.
