Our client, a BioPharmaceutical Company based in the North West (Manchester) is seeking a Research Assistant: Molecular Biology to join them on a Permanent Basis. Salary package - £25,000 -30,000
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will assist a highly talented and productive molecular biology team in the construction of strains for the production of therapeutic proteins and biocatalytic enzymes. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a number of technical duties including
"Growth and maintenance of microbial cell cultures
"Classic molecular biology techniques: cloning, transformation, PCR, nucleic acid extraction
"Molecular genetics: Strain construction, gene expression, gene deletion
"DNA, RNA & protein analysis: Southern blots, Northern blots and Western blot techniques
"Protein purification and characterisation: quantification of protein concentration, SDS and native gel electrophoresis, affinity purification of tagged proteins
The incumbent will also be expected to adapt, modify, and develop new techniques and/or procedures as needed; prepare solutions and reagents; maintain records and compile data; interpret and document findings; conduct literature searches; maintain an efficient laboratory, including ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and biological materials.
Qualifications: Masters or B.Sc. in cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, pharmacology or related field.
Requirements: Significant industrial working experience in a molecular biology laboratory is required. Internship or full-time experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
Experience with recombinant protein expression in fungal or mammalian host is strongly desired The candidate should be able to work independently, be highly motivated, well organised, adaptable and work well within a highly interdisciplinary and international team.
