The North West Division is able to offer a wide range of engineering disciplines with specialist expertise in transportation (including light and heavy rail), structures, urban regeneration, contaminated land, geotechnics, public health, water supply, and engineering materials including cathodic protection.
The Building and Infrastructure unit has been consistently winning significant national and international projects. We are therefore expanding and developing the Altrincham Bridge Engineering team to support our capability to deliver high quality, cost effective and tailored engineering solutions to our public and private sector clients. The successful applicant will be working within an established team of 17 bridge engineers, working on a variety of projects including Holton Borough Framework, Network Rail works, Nottingham Tram, and Strengthening of M53 highway structures/bridges.
Job description As a Graduate Bridge Engineer, you will be involved on a range of small to large projects which are industry and public high profile. The roles will be challenging, demanding, varied and offer fantastic opportunities for skill set and career development.
Key responsibilities: • Carry out all aspects of design including railway and highways bridges • Working within a Quality Assured environment to produce technically correct results • Use of structural analysis packages to support bridge design • Drafting reports for structural bridge inspections • Write the specification for the projects and establish the schedules for all equipment • Respond to contractor queries and attend site progress meetings • Manage projects when required
Candidate specification Essential qualifications, experience, competencies and skills: • B.Sc or B.Eng or equivalent in civil or structural Engineering. • A minimum of 3 years design experience and exposure to a range of bridge engineering solutions in a range of project types, i.e., buildings and infrastructure. • Has a personal interest in Bridge Engineering which will be utilised in a broad range of engineering projects. • Working towards Chartership with the ICE or IStructE. • Ability to demonstrate technical excellence in bridge design engineering. • Ability to write reports clearly, succinctly and correctly. • Ability to communicate in English fluently. • Good time management.
Desirable qualifications, experience, competencies and skills: • Strong IT skills ideally with AutoCAD experience or knowledge of bridge engineering software. • Competency with both HA (Highways Agency) & NR (Network Rail) design standards. • Experience of working in UK bridge design engineering. • Ability to deliver projects within set deadlines and work autonomously when required.
