Mott MacDonald have a total Light Rapid Transit capability including comms, power supply, infrastructure, rolling stock, operations and procurement.
As a result of our continuing success we are recently appointed as Design Services Consultant by the promoters of NET for the proposed extensions of the system; having previously acted as their lead technical advisor through the TWA application. We require a Senior Technical Engineering Manager, primarily to support the NET project manager, manage a variety of functions including the technical and planning workstream leaders, reporting to the client team and liaison with Stakeholders.
Job description The NET project team is primarily based in our offices in Nottingham and Altrincham. The role could be based in the Altrincham office, but you will be required to make regular visits to Nottingham or alternatively be based in Nottingham but require regular visits to Altrincham. Occasional visits will also be required to Mott MacDonald offices in Birmingham and Croydon.
Whilst the role is initially focussed on NET the successful candidate will be presented with varied and exciting long term career opportunities within a dynamic team.
The role will require both outline and detailed design management expertise, and will involve assisting a team of system engineers.
Recent Light Rapid Transit projects in the North West office include the revamp of Blackpool trams, works on the Croydon Tramlink, Birmingham’s metro system, Manchester Metro link and the upgrading of its existing system, and Nottingham public enquiry.
Essential qualifications, experience, competencies and skills: • Chartered Civil Engineer with the ICE . • Need to have an understanding of local authorities, such as funding elements of local authorities and the different sources funding comes from. • Experience and background of highways maintenance. • Has a minimum of 5 years relevant railways and tramway design experience. • Good understanding of UK planning procedures/protocols. • Has relevant design experience and have a personal interest in LRT/multi-disciplinary Engineering which will be utilised in a broad range of engineering projects. • Ability to demonstrate technical excellence in LRT/Highway design engineering. • Ability to write reports clearly, succinctly and correctly. • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and external clients/contacts • Capability to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required • Ability to deliver projects within set deadlines and work autonomously when required.
Desirable qualifications, experience, competencies and skills: • B.Sc or B.Eng or equivalent in civil Engineering. • MICE • Experience of financial modelling. • Experience of control room systems. • Experience of maintenance practices. • Good commercial experience, regarding managing project budgets and programmes. • Ability to provide technical expertise and focus.
