Bridge Engineer - Manchester
To undertake all activities relating to feasibility studies, assessment, design and construction of bridges; and assist with the management of the bridges group.
Key responsibilities / main duties
- Assist in the preparation of and delivery of business plans - Developing, resourcing, implementing and monitoring project programmes within time and budgetary constraints - Ensuring design solutions conform to the client's requirements, statutory regulations and company standards - Obtaining client feedback - Maintaining consistently high technical standards - Advising, counseling and motivating staff - Establishing and developing working relationships with client representatives through targeted visits and particularly through projects - Preparing technical and financial proposals that meet the client requirements in a cost effective manner - Identifying new work opportunities and securing extensions to projects either through direct spin off or seeking other opportunities - Preparing expressions of interest, tenders and presentations to secure new work - Establish and develop working relationships with external consultants, suppliers and other Mouchel Parkman divisions, monitoring performance to programme, budget and technical standards - Providing effective technical support to project staff and other departments in the company - Keeping the departmental manager briefed with regard to achieving performance in key result areas - Highlighting problems that adversely affect client perception as soon as they become apparent. - Ensuring application of appropriate Health and Safety, quality and environmental procedures. - Chartered status - Significant post-graduate experience of bridge design and/or assessment - Practical experience of design and build contracts - Experience in bridge design to BS5400 - Working knowledge of DMRB's and SHW's - Experience of integral bridges - Good team working and communication skills - Able to work with minimum supervision - Able to work under pressure - Good numerical skills Requirements Essential requirements of the role are as follows: Ideally you will have working knowledge of Highways Agency procedures along with working knowledge of Superstress and/or Lusas and practical experience of finite elements.
