JOB PROFILE This career opportunity will be working on one of the largest multi-million pound rail and port expansion projects in the world; the scope of the entire project encompasses engineering, procurement, project management and construction management amongst many others. The programme incorporates the expansion of the existing South African ports largely with respect to their container handling capacity to meet the increasing demands of growth experienced globally in the container logistics industry.
JOB DESCRIPTION The Project/Area Manager is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the engineering designs for the Container Terminal of the Transnet project thus involving a integral interaction with the project’s dynamics and functions.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: • Directs, controls and coordinates the planning, cost controls, change management, estimating asset management and administration functions. • Ensuring the consistent application of engineering standards, procedures and quality processes on all projects across all engineering disciplines including external engineering resources and site based engineering team. • Initiates and directs the planning and development of the project scope, overall project schedule, organization and staffing plan, budget and project procedures. • Arrange the preparation and issue of enquiries for additional work in accordance with site procurement procedures. • Responsible for the implementation and pro-activity of all aspects of the Project Safety Management System including contractors and contractor project managers.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION The successful candidate(s) will be integrated into the management and success of the Richards Bay Container Terminal and of the whole project objective. It is essential that that any individual is capable of establishing credible relations with the client, senior project personnel and site personnel quickly as necessary.
• Management of design/project/operations engineering programme in heavy industry / project management ideally gained over a minimum of 15 years. • Experience involvement in at least one significant project and exposure to all areas of Project Controls ideally over 5+ years • It is essential that the candidate has detailed knowledge and experience of implementation of engineering codes and standards as well as community IR awareness. • The candidate must be capable of demonstrating excellent project planning and organisation Skills. • The candidate must have proven leadership abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Proven background commercial awareness and resourcefulness under pressure • Strong business development skills with customer and client focus.
