Senior Wave Modeller
W. F. Baird & Associates is an internationally recognized engineering firm specializing in innovative coastal structure projects worldwide. We are seeking a skilled numerical modeller to support our exceptional team in the Ottawa, Ontario office and provide leadership to advance our capabilities in the area of oceanic wave modelling. The job responsibilities will include:
• Strategic technical direction for Baird’s initiatives in wave modelling. • Application of various wave models in support of engineering projects: analysis and assessment of global wave hindcasting/forecasting, harbour wave agitation, nearshore wave transformation, and tropical cyclone simulation. • Design and lead metocean data collection campaigns. • Software design or development in support of the above initiatives may be an opportunity. • Development of design conditions for engineering project support. • Client liaison. • Project management. • Preparation of proposals and reports.
We are searching for a proactive goal oriented individual whose achievements and accomplishments will lead into a leadership role that will include management of projects and business development. In addition we are looking an individual who enjoys the challenge of approaching problems from research through resolution in a timely manner and whose contributions will be appreciated.
Our team requires 5 to 10 years experience in numerical modelling of winds and waves, and a post-graduate degree in Coastal Engineering, Oceanography, Meteorology, or related field. Experience with MATLAB, or other similar calculation and programming tools, and FORTRAN is an asset. Candidates should be legally able to work in Canada and possess a high level of both written and spoken English.
