JOB PROFILE Mott MacDonald’s track record in railways dates back to the early 1900s with the construction of the City and South London Railway. Our technical engineering disciplines cover all aspects of railway systems (trackwork, signalling, telecommunications, rolling stock, operations, safety assurance systems, mechanical and electrical, traction power, ergonomics) and infrastructure (tunnels, bridges, earthworks, stations, intermodal depots, marshalling yards).
Working on one of the largest multi-million pound rail and port expansion projects in the world, the scope of the entire project encompasses engineering, procurement, project management and construction management. This role will be specifically be working on increasing the capacity of the 800 km iron-ore heavy rail line from 37 million to 91 million tonnes per annum with further scope anticipated with project developments.
JOB DESCRIPTION The role will be working on all aspects of Rail Structural Design Engineering, including a range of bridge design and assessment, design of signal gantries, stations and depots, foundation design, earthworks stabilisation and permanent way (track) layouts
Responsibilities will include but not exclusive to: • Help successfully deliver a number of projects which include ground investigation, design of embankment remediation, and investigation & design of drainage schemes. • Depending on experience, mentor less experienced engineers on design/consultancy processes • Supervise and lead the work of a team, ensuring that it is carried out to the appropriate technical standard • Ensure the work of a team is managed to programme and budget • Handling a varied workload and a variety of challenges. • Ground/site investigation, using knowledge of geology, hydrogeology and rail trackbed construction. CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION The successful candidate(s) will be highly integrated into the management and success of specific projects and of the whole project function. It is essential that that any individual is capable of establishing credible relations with the client, senior project personnel and site personnel quickly.
• Capable and prepared to remain committed to project for a minimum of 3years. • Engineering Degree qualified (Ideally) either working towards or completed chartership depending on seniority. • Extensive experience in Railway Geotechnical Engineering Management • Capable of leading operations and integrating all influencing factors with minimal project disruption. • Strong reporting skills to a range of senior managers. • A personal drive to successfully conclude project specifics.
