Reports to: Director, Property Development Unit
Job Purpose:
• Ensuring that the city’s schematic designs are compliant with the sustainability vision of the city and delivers the value proposition communicated to residents and tenants
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise all city schematic building design activities to ensure the city is compliant with the sustainability vision of the company, delivers the value proposition communicated to tenants and is compliant with applicable local regulations
• Ensure that all schematic designs are compliant with PDU’s document control policies as well as applicable engineering standards
• Identify early on potential design issues and facilitates a continuous communication between the managers of building design, urban planning and landscaping to resolve potential technical issues
• Manage technical designers to ensure alignment between the various design teams and the corresponding design interfaces (i.e. urban planning and building design)
• Monitor the Design coordination department to assure that all the detailed designs are aligned to the schematic designs developed by the Design Management Division
• Approve specifications recommended by the Specifications Manager, in line with the city’s sustainability vision developed by the Sustainability Division
• Lead the design teams, while ensuring that approved specifications are integrated in all city designs
• Continuously ensure that all design teams communicate with consultants, contractors and external stakeholders (such as the municipality of Abu Dhabi) and act as a lead in resolving arising technical issues, while representing the city’s sustainability vision at all times
• Call for and lead meetings with the Infrastructure Department and Projects Departments to coordinate on the technical design interfaces and construction progress
Job Requirements:
Education
–Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent
Experience
–10+ years working experience in design and project management
–Experience in leading the designs of large-scale urban and mixed-use projects
Skills:
–Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
–Excellent leadership skills and ability to delegate and coordinate responsibilities
–Strong ability to balance conflicting interests
–Strong ability to lead meetings and negotiate in the interest of the company
–Ability to prioritize actions and take firm and timely decisions
–Commercially aware and able to act in clients best interests
–Able to work extended hours to fulfill the role
